The delayed monsoon in India has had a significant impact on sweet corn sales this year. According to vendors, sales are expected to decline by 10-20% due to the late start of the season.

Raju Shetye, a vendor near Fatimanagar, said that they usually see strong sales when the monsoon arrives between mid and late June. However, this year there were virtually no sales until mid-July, and even the harvest was delayed.

The demand for sweet corn picks up after the monsoon arrives, especially at tourist destinations. Wholesale prices are currently hovering between Rs 12 and Rs 15 per cob, while roasted sweet corn is being sold in retail markets for Rs 40-50 per cob.

Meena Tanna, a resident of Baner, said that she usually buys sweet corn online but this year the price has already risen to Rs 22-24 per cob. She hopes that prices will stabilize soon.
