Moonilal Denies Gas Diversion Claims at Point Lisas

Trinidad and Tobago's Energy Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal has dismissed claims that gas intended for petrochemical companies at Point Lisas was being diverted to Atlantic LNG. In Parliament, Moonilal pointed out that there have been 20 operational disruptions at the estate this year, but most were unrelated to natural gas availability.

The minister said NGC had met its contractual obligations to domestic customers, delivering gas at contracted levels on approximately 95% of days in 2026. Petrochemical customers received gas volumes approximately 33% above their contractual entitlements since January, excluding one customer whose gas offtake was constrained by plant-related operational issues.

Moonilal rejected claims that there had been a change in the national natural gas allocation policy resulting in gas being diverted from Point Lisas petrochemical customers to Atlantic LNG. He pointed out that NGC had fully met its contractual gas supply obligations to domestic customers since 2025 and continued to meet entitlement obligations to Atlantic LNG during the period.
