Moonilal Dismisses Claims of Gas Diversion to Atlantic LNG
Trinidad and Tobago's Energy Minister Dr. Roodal Moonilal has dismissed claims that gas intended for petrochemical companies at Point Lisas Industrial Estate is being diverted to Atlantic LNG.
Moonilal pointed out that NGC, the National Gas Company, had met its contractual obligations to domestic customers, delivering gas at contracted levels on approximately 95% of days in 2026. Petrol chemical customers had received gas volumes approximately 33% above their contractual entitlements since January.
The Energy Minister stated that 20 separate operational disruptions occurred at Point Lisas this year, with most unrelated to natural gas availability. Only one incident resulted in the curtailment of supplies to petrochemical customers due to a planned upstream activity coordinated with Atlantic LNG's Train 4 turnaround.
Moonilal said NGC had not changed its allocation policy and was unaware of any diversion of gas from Point Lisas to Atlantic LNG. He attributed operational problems experienced by downstream producers to factors other than a shortage of gas from NGC.
