Moonilal Disputes Claims of Gas Diversion from Petrochemical Companies

Trinidad and Tobago's Energy Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal has refuted claims that gas intended for petrochemical companies at Point Lisas was diverted to Atlantic LNG. In Parliament, he said there were 20 separate operational disruptions at the estate this year, but most were unrelated to natural gas availability.

Moonilal pointed out that NGC had continued to meet its contractual obligations to domestic customers, delivering gas at contracted levels on approximately 95% of days in 2026. Petrochemical customers received gas volumes approximately 33% above their contractual entitlements since January.

The Minister rejected Opposition claims of a change in the national natural gas allocation policy that resulted in gas being diverted from petrochemical customers to Atlantic LNG. He said NGC had neither changed its allocation of gas to petrochemical customers nor was aware of any diversion.
