Morgan Sees $40 Trillion Debt Fueling Financial Repression, Bullish on Metals
The US debt has surpassed $40 trillion, and financial repression is underway to inflate away the debt. This process involves paying off debt with cheaper dollars, which erodes purchasing power. David Morgan of The Morgan Report explains that this is the only viable exit strategy for governments facing unmanageable debt.
Morgan points out that official inflation numbers understate the real erosion of purchasing power, with estimates ranging from 6-9%. He cites examples like beef prices increasing by 9% in a month. The goal of the system is to keep inflation under control and prevent it from turning into hyperinflation.
Miners are leading the way, with mining shares acting as a leading indicator. GDX rose around 50% in August after breaking out above $70-$72 at the end of July. Morgan believes that smart money is rotating into the metal sector, and mining shares offer excellent value due to their strong free cash flows.
Morgan remains bullish on silver, targeting a price of at least $150. He emphasizes that purchasing power is the real measure of wealth, not headline numbers like '10,000 gold.'
