Mozambique President Seeks Private Sector Help with $50B LNG Pipeline
Mozambique's President Daniel Chapo has called on the private sector to help turn $50 billion in liquefied natural gas (LNG) investments into economic growth. Speaking at the Mozambique CEO Summit, Chapo emphasized the country's potential as a regional energy hub and driver of industrialization.
The Rovuma Basin is home to over 100 trillion cubic feet of gas resources, with major projects including Eni-led Coral South FLNG, TotalEnergies-led Mozambique LNG, and ExxonMobil-led Rovuma LNG. These projects have a combined capacity of more than 40 million tons per year.
The president wants to use the investments to accelerate industrialization, build local capacity, create jobs, and strengthen Mozambique's business ecosystem. He called on energy projects in the Rovuma Basin to prioritize workforce development and training while ensuring Mozambican contractors and companies play a meaningful role in project development.
