Moldovan politician Igor Munteanu is calling for transparency in the country's energy crisis. He wants the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) and Energocom to explain how they calculated a new natural gas rate that will take effect on September 1.

The rate increase of over 40% will amount to approximately 20.30 lei per cubic meter, with an average price of 6,870 lei for 1,000 cubic meters compared to the previous level. Munteanu demands a justification for each expense item down to the last leu.

Energocom cites rising TTF prices as the reason for the rate increase, but Munteanu argues that consumers pay for gas itself, commercial markups, transportation, and other expenses, not just the TTF price. He urges government agencies to disclose administrative expenses and executive compensation at energy companies.
