Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni began a two-day visit to Tanzania on Wednesday, where he will meet with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan to discuss key projects, including the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (Eacop).

The pipeline aims to transport Uganda's crude oil from the Kingfisher oilfield development to the Tanzanian port of Tanga for export. With commercial oil production nearing reality after two decades of policy development and negotiations with international oil companies, the project is a crucial step towards unlocking Uganda's oil resources.

Museveni's trip highlights Tanzania's central role in Uganda's oil ambitions, not just as a transit country but also as a key strategic partner. Once completed, Eacop will earn transit revenues for Tanzania and solidify its position in the region's energy landscape.
