Myanmar Boosts Maize Exports to Thailand via Tachilek Trade Post
Myanmar is ramping up its maize exports to Thailand through the Tachilek trade post, according to the Commerce Ministry. The country has been shipping corn duty-free under Form D certificates since February, with volumes steadily increasing over time.
The maize export volume via the Tachilek border trade post was 92,653 tonnes in the 2022-2023 financial year and rose to 157,644 tonnes in the 2023-2024 financial year. The next two years saw significant growth, with volumes reaching 327,004 tonnes in the 2024-2025 financial year and 77,909 tonnes in the 2025-2026 financial year.
However, demand has been sluggish recently due to some animal feed mills on the Thai side temporarily suspending operations and warehouses being full. Despite this, traders are racing to ship corn before the tax-free export period ends at the end of August.
