Naftogaz Secures Potential Long-Term LNG Supplies from Canadian Firm
Naftogaz Group has signed a memorandum with Canadian company Kino Aski LNG to explore potential long-term supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Canada to Ukraine.
The agreement was announced by Serhii Fedorenko, Acting Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz, who stated that the parties will assess demand for Canadian LNG in Europe and evaluate logistical routes for transporting it to the region.
One possible route under consideration is the use of capacity at the LNG terminal in Klaipeda, Lithuania, which Naftogaz holds long-term contracts for. The companies also plan to explore other European LNG terminals.
The memorandum aims to help Ukraine diversify its natural gas supply sources and create opportunities for purchasing gas on competitive terms.
