Naftogaz Teams Up with Canadian LNG Project for European Supply

Ukraine's state-owned Naftogaz Group has partnered with Canadian LNG project Kino Aski LNG to explore potential long-term supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the two companies aims to assess the possibility of adding Canadian LNG to Naftogaz's supply portfolio.

Naftogaz acting chief executive Sergii Fedorenko said that the partnership is part of their efforts to create more opportunities to purchase gas on competitive terms. He emphasized the importance of having a choice of sources and routes to respond flexibly to Ukraine's needs.

Kino Aski LNG, led by the Atikamekw Nation, plans to have an expected capacity of 15 million metric tons per annum (MMtpa) and will transport feed gas from Western Canada to the Port of Baie-Comeau via existing and new pipelines. The project has yet to initiate any regulatory process.
