Natural Gas Futures Soar on Warmer Weather Forecasts
Natural gas futures surged on Wednesday as warmer weather forecasts and decreased production boosted demand. The September contract jumped 9.6 cents to $2.866 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) around 11:40 a.m. Eastern Time, while the October contract gained 8.8 cents to $2.909 ahead of taking the lead position at Thursday's close.
The increase was driven by a combination of factors, including lower production and stronger liquefied natural gas (LNG) feedgas demand. This trend is expected to continue as warmer weather outlooks support higher energy consumption. However, it remains to be seen whether this upward momentum will sustain itself in the coming days.
Jodi Shafto, a senior natural gas reporter at NGI, has been tracking these developments closely. As she notes, 'The September contract’s penultimate session in the lead' is an important milestone that warrants attention from market participants.
