Natural Gas Prices Poised for Substantial Rise Amid Growing Demand
US natural gas prices are expected to rise in the coming years due to increased demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports and power generation. The price of natural gas could climb substantially, but the amount needed to bring on sufficient supply is becoming increasingly uncertain.
The current forward curve for natural gas prices remains near $3 per million Btu, which is a relatively stable figure. However, efficiency gains in production and consumption are tempering expectations about how high prices will rise.
As LNG exports increase, demand for natural gas will also grow, putting upward pressure on prices. At the same time, producers are becoming more efficient, reducing the amount of capital needed to bring new supplies online. This could lead to a decrease in investment and a slower pace of new production.
