Natural Gas Prices Poised to Surge Amid Hurricane Season and Geopolitical Tensions
As we approach the peak cooling season in high gear and the heating season on the horizon, natural gas prices are expected to rise. With U.S. LNG demand soaring, this could be the perfect time to put natural gas on your trading radar.
Natural gas futures prices have been volatile over the past few months, ranging from $2.80 to $4 per MMBtu for peak season delivery in late 2026 and early 2027. The forward curve shows that prices for December 2026 and February 2027 delivery are above $3.58 per MMBtu and prices for January 2027 delivery are over $4.00 per MMBtu.
The hurricane season, which affects the U.S. Gulf Coast, is expected to start in mid-August and could lead to supply fears, shortages, and damage to natural gas infrastructure. This, combined with geopolitical tensions and sanctions, could push prices higher.
