Navi Mumbai Grocery Prices Soar by Up to 30% Amid Fuel and Transportation Costs

Essential grocery prices in Navi Mumbai have risen sharply over the past six months due to higher fuel and transportation costs, lower agricultural output, and strong demand. According to traders, items such as groundnut, pulses, edible oils, rice, and coconuts have become significantly costlier.

The prices of these daily essentials have increased by up to 30% since January, with groundnut prices rising from Rs 160 per kg to Rs 245 in July. Whole masoor has jumped from Rs 120 to Rs 220, while chana dal has risen from Rs 80 to Rs 120.

Traders attribute the price hike to repeated fuel price increases, which have led to higher transportation costs. Lower agricultural produce due to weather-related factors and strong market demand have also contributed to the inflationary pressure.

However, traders are optimistic that prices may stabilize if crop arrivals improve and supply remains uninterrupted over the coming weeks. Nevertheless, they caution that any further increase in fuel prices or disruption in agricultural production could lead to another round of price hikes.
