Nebraska Farmer Wins Big with Harvest Photo
Karla Deepe's photo of her husband working in their cornfield has won the 'This is Nebraska' category at the 2025 Nebraska State Fair. The photo was taken during the 'golden hour', when the sun is going down and everything has a golden glow. Deepe, who farms about 1,000 acres of corn and soybeans with her husband, said she captured the moment by radioing him to stop so she could take the shot.
The photo epitomizes the harvest season in Nebraska, where farmers like the Deepes work tirelessly to bring in their crops. Deepe compared the experience to the famous 'Tunnel Walk' that University of Nebraska Cornhusker football players perform as they run onto the field at Memorial Stadium. She noted that her husband and she are 'real cornhuskers', working in a tunnel of standing corn.
The photo will be featured at this year's Nebraska State Fair, which begins on August 28 in Grand Island. A new winner for the 'This is Nebraska' category will also be announced at the fair.
