Negros Occidental LNG Power Plant Plans Shelved Amidst Renewable Energy Push
Environmentalists in Negros Occidental, Philippines have scored another victory against dirty energy after Reliance Energy Development Inc. pulled out its Environmental Compliance Certificate application for a 300 MW liquefied natural gas power plant in San Carlos City.
The move is seen as a win for renewable energy advocates who had been campaigning against the project, citing environmental concerns and the province's existing wealth of renewable energy resources.
San Carlos Diocese Bishop Gerardo Alminaza welcomed the decision, saying 'Thank you, Lord! Thank you, everyone who cares for our common home.'
Reliance Energy Development is a subsidiary of San Miguel Corporation, which had previously pulled out of a coal-fired power plant project in the same city.
