Nepal Monkeys Wreak Havoc on Farmers' Crops

A new study in Nepal has revealed that monkey raids are causing significant economic losses to farmers, estimated at Rs. 50 million annually.

The National Trust for Nature Conservation conducted a study across 44 local units in five regions of Nepal, finding that corn was the most affected crop, with farmers losing an average of 312 kg per year - over 50% of their total production.

The rhesus macaques are responsible for the majority of the damage, and the study recommends establishing a National Rhesus Macaque Management Task Force to develop a national strategy for managing the monkey population.
