Nepal's LPG Supply Meets Demand Amid Temporary Shortage
Nepal's liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply is sufficient to meet demand, according to government officials. The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and LPG industrialists assured consumers that there was no need to stockpile cooking gas, citing a functional supply chain from import to distribution.
Secretary Narayan Prasad Sharma Duwadee said the government had intensified efforts to make LPG distribution more systematic and accessible amid increased demand following the resumption of full 14.2-kg cylinder distribution in July.
The monthly demand for LPG during the four-month period of Chaitra, Baishakh, Jestha, and Asar was lower than normal, standing at around 32,000 to 38,000 tonnes compared to 45,000 to 46,000 tonnes. The consumption of LPG fell by around 2.1 million cylinders during this period.
The government has requested the Government of India to increase monthly LPG supplies from the current 49,500 tonnes to 60,000 tonnes for three months. The Indian Oil Corporation has started supplying additional cooking gas beyond the normal import volume.
