NESE Pipeline Construction Delayed Amid Lawsuit Over Environmental Concerns
The construction of the Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) pipeline under Raritan Bay has been delayed, according to Clean Ocean Advocacy. The group filed a lawsuit this week to stop its construction and claims that the pipeline will harm marine life and disrupt shipping in the area.
The NESE pipeline is an extension of the Transco pipeline, which runs from the Gulf of Mexico to New York state. It will carry natural gas fracked from the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania through New Jersey to Queens, where it will provide electricity and heating for 2.3 million New York City homes.
Williams, the company building the NESE pipeline, has said that construction activities will proceed according to permits and project planning. However, the exact reason for the delay is unclear.
