Netherlands Cuts Gas Storage Target Amid Price Pressure
The Dutch government has decided to lower its natural gas storage target to 64% of capacity in an effort to ease price pressure. This move is a response to guidance from the European Commission, which urged countries to scale back their storage-fill objectives. The new target equates to 93 terawatt-hours, which officials claim will provide more than sufficient cover for an average winter.
Currently, gas reserves sit at around 52% of capacity, the lowest level ever recorded at this time of year. Gasunie has warned that the country is less well prepared for a potentially cold winter due to these low levels.
