Wholesale electricity prices in New England rose by 7% in June 2026 compared to the previous year, averaging $50.92 per megawatt-hour (MWh). The Real-Time Energy Market saw an average price of $50.92/MWh, while Day-Ahead Energy Market averages were $50.72/MWh, a 16% increase from June 2025.
The primary drivers of wholesale electricity prices in New England are consumer demand and the cost of fuel used to produce electricity. Natural gas is the predominant fuel in the region, accounting for 54% of power production in 2025.
Total demand decreased by 0.5% from June 2025, with peak demand reaching 22,772 megawatts (MW) on June 12. The average temperature and dew point in New England during June were 70°F and 56°F, respectively, leading to a decrease in cooling needs compared to the previous year.
