Newmont Rallies on Strong Gold Prices and Board Appointment
Newmont Corporation (NYSE:NEM) shares rose 3.08% in premarket trading on Friday, driven by strong gold prices and a key board appointment.
Spot gold traded above $4,500 an ounce, marking its third consecutive weekly gain according to Trading Economics. The precious metal's price has been supported by investors seeking safe-haven assets amid volatility in currency and bond markets, as well as higher oil prices that fueled inflation concerns.
Newmont specifically benefits from the increased gold prices, which can boost the value of the gold it produces and potentially increase margins and cash flow. Additionally, central bank purchases, particularly from China, have provided support to the metal's price.
The company also announced the appointment of Peter Beaven to its board of directors, effective September 1. Beaven brings decades of finance and mining industry experience to the role and is expected to join the Audit Committee.
