Newmont Smashes Q2 Earnings Expectations with Record Free Cash Flow
Newmont's second quarter earnings and free cash flow performance exceeded expectations in Q2 2026, despite a sharp intra-quarter correction in gold prices. The company reported record free cash flow of $2.2 billion, a 29% year-over-year improvement from the same period last year.
The realised gold price for Newmont came in at $4,414 per ounce, which is well below the approximately $4,900 per ounce achieved in Q1 2026 but above the ~$3,320 per ounce realised during Q2 2025. This shows that even after absorbing a significant intra-quarter pullback, Newmont was operating in a historically favourable pricing environment.
Newmont's free cash flow performance is all the more impressive considering the company's cost and capital management frameworks are functioning as designed, even under stress. The company's ability to manage its sustaining capital deployment within guidance parameters prevented cost overruns from eroding the cash generation that elevated prices enabled.
