Nigeria Aims for 3M Bpd Oil Production Target with Engineer Support

The Nigerian government has set an ambitious target to increase the country's crude oil production to three million barrels per day (bpd) by 2030. To achieve this goal, petroleum engineers and other industry professionals have been tasked with providing technical support.

Nigeria's Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, emphasized the importance of good subsurface and surface assets, talent, and integrity in achieving the country's production aspirations.

Lokpobiri highlighted several initiatives taken by the government to expand oil production, including developing more fields and building new infrastructure to handle incremental crude oil volumes. He noted that the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) had recently concluded a bid round in which 31 companies won 37 oil blocks, with potential investments of between $15 billion and $21 billion.

The minister urged petroleum engineers and other industry professionals to collaborate with stakeholders across the oil and gas value chain to provide technical support for achieving the Federal Government's production target.
