Nigeria Hits OPEC Quota as Oil Production Inches Closer to Budget Benchmark
Nigeria's oil production has maintained its compliance with OPEC's quota for four consecutive months. In August, the country produced an average of 1.68 million barrels per day, meeting its OPEC benchmark.
The output represents a 0.4 percent increase from July and is attributed to the restoration of the Single Buoy Mooring system at the Erha offshore field. This technical measure improved operations across deepwater assets, enabling regular evacuation schedules and stabilizing volumes.
Despite reaching its OPEC quota, Nigeria's production falls short of its federal budget benchmark by 102,000 barrels per day. The country aims to meet its statutory budget target of 1.78 million barrels per day, which would generate the foreign exchange required to defend the naira and finance federal capital projects.
Analysts have highlighted the need for uninterrupted operations across aging onshore pipeline networks and accelerated investment in marginal field production to bridge the fiscal gap between OPEC compliance and national budget targets.
