Nigeria Launches New Oil Licensing Round to Boost Production
Nigeria has launched a new oil licensing round, aiming to attract investors and boost production. The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has offered 37 out of 50 blocks for bidding, targeting 500 million barrels in new reserves and 300,000 barrels per day within three years.
The success of this effort depends on the protection of oil pipelines through Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd (TSSNL) operations. The company, led by High Chief Dr. Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to protect Nigeria's oil assets in the Niger Delta region.
TSSNL has been working with other security outfits to secure oil assets and maintain peace and stability in the region. Their efforts have ensured the security of oil pipelines, reducing rampant oil theft and allowing Nigeria to expand its oil production quota.
Analysts believe that continued protection of oil assets is crucial for the nation's sustainable development. CEO of Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise Muda Yusuf said, 'We are in the age of energy transition... Security in the sector must also be in place.'
