Nigeria is poised to achieve its oil production target of 300,000 barrels per day over the next three years, thanks to the successful 2025 licensing round conducted by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The round saw 143 companies submit 200 bids for 37 out of 50 blocks, targeting 500 million barrels in new reserves. However, achieving this goal will require more than just commitment to oil production.

According to Muda Yusuf, CEO of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, Nigeria is in the age of energy transition, and protecting oil assets will significantly help boost production. He noted that the 2025 round is an attempt to build a more resilient, attractive, and future-ready energy sector.

The protection of oil pipelines is crucial in achieving the production target, and this has been acknowledged by various stakeholders. The Federal Government of Nigeria has appointed Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd (TSSNL) to protect oil assets and ensure peace and stability in the Niger Delta.
