Nigeria Seeks to Cash In on Iran War's Global Gas Market Strain
Nigeria is positioning itself to capitalize on the global natural gas market's current strain due to the Iran war. The country's Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo, explained that Nigeria seeks to attract investment, expand production, and meet growing international demand, particularly in Europe.
The Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline is a key component of these plans. Ekpo stated that the project aims to strengthen Nigeria's position as a major gas supplier. He also mentioned efforts to bring down liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, move millions of households away from firewood and charcoal, and reduce gas flaring.
Nigeria has set a goal to accelerate 20 gas projects towards final investment decisions by 2030. Ekpo emphasized the importance of these initiatives in positioning Nigeria for success in the global gas market.
