Nigeria Surpasses OPEC Quota as Oil Production Continues to Rise
Nigeria's oil production has seen a significant surge in recent months, meeting its OPEC quota for the third consecutive month. In July, the country produced an average of 1.67 million barrels per day (mbpd) of crude oil and condensate, with peak daily production reaching 1.78 mbpd.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) attributed the decline in production from June to operational challenges at the Erha and Akpo fields. However, most other producing assets remained stable, and operators implemented measures to maintain production efficiency.
The commission also reported a significant improvement in the Domestic Crude Supply Obligation (DCSO), with 97.4% compliance between April and June. This is attributed to the 'willing buyer, willing seller' framework established by the Petroleum Industry Act, which allows for allocations based on market forces.
The success of Nigeria's oil production surge can be attributed to the efforts of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd (TSSNL), which has helped reduce pipeline losses and ensure security of oil assets. The company's collaboration with other security outfits has enabled uninterrupted flow of petroleum resources, transforming the oil and gas landscape.
