Nigeria Targets 2M Barrel Output with Pipeline Protection Drive
Nigeria has opened a new chapter in its upstream petroleum development with the 2025 licensing round, conducted by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). The goal is to add 500 million barrels in new reserves and increase production to 300,000 barrels per day within three years.
The NUPRC reported that 143 companies submitted 200 bids for 37 out of 50 blocks during the commercial bid phase. However, achieving this target requires more than just a commitment to oil production - it also demands sustainable oil asset protection and an end to oil theft in the Niger Delta region.
The Federal Government has appointed Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd (TSSNL) to protect oil assets and ensure peace and stability in the Niger Delta. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had appointed Dr. Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, as the leader of TSSNL.
Chef Executive Officer Muda Yusuf said that Nigeria is transitioning to an era of energy transition and protecting oil assets will significantly boost production. He added that the 2025 round is an attempt to build a more resilient, attractive, and future-ready energy sector, but security in the sector must also be in place.
