Nigeria's Bonga Southwest/Aparo Project Could Add 175,000 bpd to Oil Production

Nigeria's oil production is expected to receive a boost from the Bonga Southwest/Aparo (BSWAp) project, which could reach peak production of about 175,000 barrels per day (bpd).

This deepwater project has been in development for some time and is now at a critical point, with the country trying to sustain its recent production recovery while attracting billions of dollars into new oil developments.

The BSWAp project's significance goes beyond the volume of crude it could produce. It is also being watched against Nigeria's ambition to raise production to 2 million bpd by 2027 and 3 million bpd by 2030, as well as the Federal Government's efforts to revive investment in capital-intensive deepwater projects.

The project has not yet reached Final Investment Decision (FID), but if it does, it could add a sizeable new production stream to Nigeria's oil portfolio. The BSWAp project is part of a much bigger offshore investment pipeline, with 22 major offshore projects expected between 2026 and 2030, and an estimated investment potential of $30 billion to $50 billion.
