Nigeria is aiming to increase its crude oil production to 3 million barrels per day by 2030, but the country's upstream infrastructure is a major challenge.

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has reported that the country's crude production averaged about 1.56 million barrels per day in June 2026, marking the fourth consecutive month of production growth.

The commission attributed the improvement to stable production operations and effective turnaround maintenance, as well as improved asset integrity.

However, maintaining the integrity and reliability of Nigeria's upstream infrastructure is a complex issue that requires more than just replacing ageing facilities.
