Nine Countries Unite for Energy Security with Expanded Vertical Gas Corridor
The Vertical Gas Corridor initiative has expanded to include operators Nomagas from North Macedonia and Transportgas Srbija, bringing the total number of participating countries to nine. The memorandum was signed in Thessaloniki during the 10th Southeast Europe Energy Forum. This development aims to improve regional connectivity and diversify natural gas transportation sources and routes.
Bulgaria plays a crucial role in the energy security of the Western Balkans, according to Energy Minister Iva Petrova. The development of the Vertical Gas Corridor is seen as a step towards strengthening regional integration and energy supplies security. Bulgartransgaz's Executive Director Kiril Ravnachki highlighted the corridor's potential as a gateway for secure liquefied natural gas supplies from the USA.
The construction of necessary infrastructure on Bulgarian territory is expected to be completed by October 1, 2026. The companies will work together to optimize infrastructure and develop bidirectional transmission capabilities.
