The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has clarified its role in the recent oil licensing round, stating that it is not responsible for conducting or allocating oil blocks.

In a statement, Chief Corporate Communications Officer Andy Odeh said that under the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, these responsibilities fall within the mandate of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

NNPC Ltd has operated as a commercial entity since its incorporation and holds no regulatory or allocative authority.

Odeh also highlighted the company's recent achievements in crude oil production, stating that it averaged 1.60 million barrels per day (mbpd) inclusive of condensate as of April 2025, rising to 1.67 mbpd by April 2026, a 6% growth.

The company also reported similar growth in gas production, averaging 7,354 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) in April 2025 and reaching 7,729 mmscfd by April 2026, a 5% increase.
