NNPC Denies Allegations of Poor Performance Amid Increased Oil Production
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has responded to allegations of poor performance and impropriety against its management. The company, led by Group Chief Executive Officer Bayo Ojulari, denied any wrongdoing and pointed to an increase in crude oil and gas production under their leadership.
In a statement, NNPC clarified that it does not have the authority to conduct oil licensing rounds or allocate oil blocks, as those responsibilities fall under the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission under the Petroleum Industry Act. The company emphasized that industry stakeholders should rely on verifiable corporate and regulatory data when assessing their performance.
According to NNPC, average crude oil production has increased from 1.60 million barrels per day in April 2025 to 1.67 million barrels per day in April 2026, representing a six percent growth. Additionally, average gas production rose from 7,354 million standard cubic feet per day to 7,729 million standard cubic feet per day within the same period.
