NNPC Denies Poor Performance Claims, Cites 6% Increase in Crude Oil Output
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has responded to allegations of poor performance made by the Oil and Gas Professionals Forum (OGPF). NNPC stated that its crude oil and gas production have increased under the leadership of Group Chief Executive Officer Bayo Ojulari.
In a statement, NNPC said its average crude oil production stood at 1.60 million barrels per day in April 2025 and rose to 1.67 million bpd in April 2026, representing a 6% growth. The company also reported an increase in gas production during the period under review.
NNPC clarified that it has no regulatory or allocative powers over oil licensing rounds, which fall within the statutory mandate of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). The company welcomed scrutiny of its operations but urged industry commentators to verify information through appropriate channels before making public claims about its performance.
