NNPCL Aims for 12 Bcf/d Gas Output by 2030 with Expanded LNG Exports
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced plans to significantly expand its natural gas industry, aiming to increase national gas production to 12 billion cubic feet per day by 2030. This goal is part of the company's Gas Master Plan, which seeks to bridge the gap between Nigeria's current resource position and its estimated potential.
The plan has set an intermediate production target of 10 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2027, with output expected to rise further to 12 Bcf/d by 2030. The NNPCL Executive Vice President, Gas, Power & New Energy, Olalekan Ogunleye, explained that the company's gas strategy is being pursued under the framework of the Petroleum Industry Act, the Decade of Gas Framework and the Gas Master Plan.
Nigeria has already established a presence in the international LNG market through its operations, including Nigeria LNG Limited, which has exported more than 6,000 LNG cargoes since 1999. The country's export capacity is also expected to expand with the completion of Train 7 in 2027. Ogunleye emphasized that Nigeria does not have to sacrifice domestic gas consumption in order to expand exports and can pursue both objectives under its gas development strategy.
