North America Sets Record with 4 Billion Cubic Meters of Natural Gas
The International Gas Union (IGU), Snam, and Rystad Energy have released the 2026 Global Gas Report, which reveals a record-breaking 4,147 billion cubic meters of natural gas produced worldwide in 2025. This achievement is attributed to North America's contribution, with the three major basins mentioned as the driving force behind this growth - the Permian, Haynesville, and Appalachia.
The report highlights that North America added a staggering 54 billion cubic meters (bcm) of supply, equivalent to approximately 1.9 trillion cubic feet or over 5 Bcf/d of new gas in a single year. This remarkable increase is a testament to the region's expanding energy production capabilities.
