North Macedonia Connects with Vertical Gas Corridor
North Macedonia has joined the Vertical Gas Corridor through an agreement signed in Thessaloniki. The initiative aims to increase the region's access to alternative gas supplies and reduce dependence on a limited number of energy sources.
The agreement connects North Macedonia's gas system with neighboring countries, as well as Greece's wider gas infrastructure and the LNG terminal in Alexandroupolis. This is expected to give the country greater flexibility in sourcing natural gas and improve the security of supply.
North Macedonia's participation brings the total number of participating countries to eight: Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine, Moldova, and now North Macedonia.
The Vertical Gas Corridor is considered strategically important for the diversification of energy routes in Southeast Europe. For North Macedonia, joining the corridor represents a step toward greater energy security and regional integration.
