Northern Star Dives into Alaska's Copper-Gold Frontier with PolarX Partnership
Northern Star Resources (ASX:NST), a leading Australian gold miner, has strengthened its presence in Alaska through a partnership with PolarX (ASX:PXX) to explore copper-gold opportunities at the Alaska Range project.
The joint venture, announced last August, allows Northern Star to earn up to 70% stake in the project by contributing staged cash payments over five years. So far, the company has invested US$11m and earned a 30% interest in the project.
The Alaska Range project, which spans 261km2, hosts significant copper-gold resources at Caribou Dome and Zackly deposits. A 2024 scoping study estimated pre-tax NPV of AU$625 million and an internal rate of return of 74% for a combined development scenario.
PolarX executive chairman Mark Bojanjac said the project has exceptional potential economics, with copper prices having risen 60% since the scoping study was published. The JV is now focused on expanding the current resource and progressing the project towards feasibility.
