Norway's energy minister, Terje Aasland, has reaffirmed the country's commitment to exploring and developing oil and gas fields in the Arctic region. This move comes despite calls from the EU to restrict fossil fuel extraction in the polar area.

Aasland emphasized that Norway will prioritize its sovereign economic interests and energy security when making decisions about natural resource management. He stated that drilling operations in the Barents Sea are crucial for sustaining hydrocarbon output and supporting European market stability.

Norway has emerged as Europe's primary supplier of natural gas, and officials argue that opening new production zones is vital to offset field decline and ensure uninterrupted energy flows during the low-carbon transition.
