Norway's Oil Production Falls Short as Strikes Continue
Norway's oil and gas production in July showed mixed results, with natural gas production increasing for the second consecutive month, while oil production fell short of expectations.
The Norwegian Offshore Directorate reported that natural gas production averaged 350.6 million cubic meters per day (MMcmd) in July, a 5.2 percent increase from June and 6.3 percent higher than the same period last year. However, this figure was lower than the official forecast by 1.8 percent.
In contrast, oil production averaged 1.77 million barrels per day (MMbpd) in July, down 2.6 percent from June and 9.9 percent from the same period in 2025. The NOD reported that this figure was also lower than its projection by 2.1 percent.
The decrease in oil production is attributed to ongoing strikes by the Norwegian Union of Energy Workers (SAFE) over a proposed agreement with Offshore Norge, which represents companies on the Norwegian continental shelf. Despite the recent agreement to leave the dispute to a voluntary wage board, it remains unclear when this decision will be made.
