NTPC Expands Global Footprint with Projects in Saudi Arabia and Oman
State-owned National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is expanding its global footprint by targeting markets in Saudi Arabia and Oman. The power giant plans to establish an integrated power project and desalination plant near Jeddah, with a 700-MW oil-fired power project alongside a 170 million gallon-per-day de-salination plant.
NTPC has tied up with Black and Veich to jointly bid for the operations and maintenance contract for the Shouiba integrated power and desalination project. The company's Chairman and Managing Director, C P Jain, said they had put in an initial bid for the project, which is at a preliminary stage.
The corporation also plans to set up a similar project in Oman in joint venture with Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL). The Sohar project, estimated to cost $1 billion, would comprise a 450-MW power plant and a 60-MGD desalination plant.
