Crude oil futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) saw their first decline in six trading sessions on August 24, settling at $89.31 per barrel for West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for September delivery.

The price drop of $2.88 from the previous day's close was driven by easing supply anxiety as talks aimed at de-escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran gained momentum.

Market participants reported that China and other nations were mediating the peace negotiations, which reduced worries about supply disruptions in the Middle East, a major crude oil producing region.
