Ogoni Women Demand Inclusion in Oil Production Discussions
A group of Ogoni women has demanded inclusion in discussions about resuming oil production in their region. The Monagboka Community Builders Initiative (MCBI) called for a platform where women can participate and monitor the implementation of decisions made.
The President of MCBI, Annas Dumnamene, emphasized that women's voices must be heard in decisions concerning Ogoni's future. She stated that the conversation should focus not only on whether oil production will resume but also on the kind of Ogoni it will return to, particularly regarding livelihoods, environmental protection, and community development.
The group demanded 35% female representation in Ogoni youth organizations, including leadership levels. They also called for economic opportunities for women-owned businesses in various sectors.
