Ohio Gas Prices Soar Amid Global Oil Price Volatility

Ohio motorists are facing higher gas prices compared to last year. The current average price of a gallon of regular gas in Ohio is $3.86, an increase of 79 cents from this time a year ago when it was $3.07 per gallon. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), global market oil prices have surged due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for crude oil exports, has been affected by recent instability in the region, pushing crude oil prices above $90 per barrel. This rise in oil prices contributes to higher pump prices across the country.

While Ohioans may be experiencing higher gas prices, they are still better off than drivers in other states. The national average for a gallon of regular gas now stands at $4.09 per gallon, up 15 cents from last week and a year-over-year increase of 93 cents since it was $3.16 per gallon.

The AAA recommends several strategies to help motorists save on fuel costs. These include shopping around for the best gas prices, paying cash when possible, enrolling in fuel-savings programs, maintaining vehicles for optimal fuel efficiency, and driving at moderate speeds.
