Oil Industry Host Community Summit Set for August 2027
The oil industry's Host Community Summit, known as HostComm, will take place on August 9-10, 2027, in Lagos. The summit is organized by a consortium of three oil and gas-focused organizations: Caritas Communications Limited, Africa Oil+Gas Report (AOGR), and Pedestal Africa.
The main goal of the summit is to address the gap between regulatory requirements and their implementation at the community level, particularly as operators, regulators, and host communities continue to grapple with the practical implications of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021. The PIA requires oil companies to contribute 3% of their operating expenses to Host Communities Development Trusts for community development.
The summit will focus on practical solutions, conflict resolution, and development models that can attract and sustain investment in host communities. It will also examine the role of host communities in the wider oil and gas supply chain and explore ways to integrate host community capacity into the energy value chain.
