Oil Industry Proves Writer Wrong on Production Growth
A financial writer has come clean about making a prediction that fell flat, oil and gas production won't meet future demand growth. In his book, published in 2019, he hypothesized that global oil production would struggle to increase due to several factors. However, the industry has proven him wrong with production exceeding expectations.
The writer attributed his error to two main factors: a shift in public opinion towards valuing energy security and the advancements in technology within the industry. Unlike in 2019 when activists were pushing for a rapid transition away from fossil fuels, there's now a growing recognition of the importance of reliable energy sources.
He also noted that oil companies are becoming more skilled at extracting resources, thanks to improvements in drilling techniques and the use of new technologies such as open hole multi-lateral (OHML) drilling. This method allows for the extraction of reserves from established fields, previously deemed uneconomical to tap into.
