Oil Pollution Invades Mangrove Forests on Qeshm Island in Iran

A new environmental disaster has struck Qeshm Island in Iran, as oil pollution spreads from the southern coast and invades the protected mangrove forests of Naqasheh village.

The oil slicks have covered a large area, approximately one kilometer long, and are threatening the region's ecological balance. Shah Morad Jafari, head of the Qeshm Environmental Protection Department, confirmed that specialized teams are collecting analytical samples of water and coastal sediments to determine the source of the spill.

The mangrove forests of Qeshm are a vital habitat for many rare aquatic organisms and birds, and environmental experts warn of severe damage if the oil contaminates the soil and vegetation. The Qeshm prosecutor has issued directives to remove the oil slicks and minimize damage, but no official reports have been made on the death of marine life or direct damage to coastal facilities.
